My last year in college

It’s my last year! Can’t believe it: in May 2014 I will be done. I have achieved all the goals I’ve set for myself thus far. Let’s hope senior year I can do the same! I’ll work my best to leave college with taking advantage of all the opportunities set in front of me.

Best,

[POEM] Lonely Boy

Scars are left on what you call your heart from a dad that never was

He left

Not realizing that the lingering pain of a man unsure, would wreak years of insecurities

And create a broken soul, only some of us know

This

Is what it is

Your dad left, before you can even remember his name and you searched for him

Blinded, you searched for love

And the emptiness raised into what we call heart ache

Little did you know that you would search for a man you never knew, you would search for you

Lonely boy, you changed transgressions and searched for love in a woman

And this woman was your first love, and left too

Adding damages to an already broken heart and breaking pieces

Pieces off of your heart

Your soul

Your pride

Your dignity

Lonely boy

You then found a woman, that could have completed you

But you fucked her

You fucked all of her

Instead of loving her, even though you didn’t know how

Your pieces, created pieces, too many pieces of her broken heart

Lonely boy, you just created a lonely girl

Chalked up dreams of hers were lost the minute you lost yourself

Broken promises, crooked smiles, created within the pores of your bleeding love

Love you never wanted

Love you’ve always needed

And now she’s broken, you’re broken

And broken souls leak into the world we call whole

Cruel, cruel world

look where we are

That woman, hurt as she is

May never love again

Her broken heart, will break hearts, and your broken soul

Why? No one ever lets go

What kind of love is this

With so many challenges we already face, you’d expect for love to come easy

Instead you hold grudges from hurt from him

And them

When you should just let it go, be free, and give the love you never had

And a cycle is created

He left, so you leave, and she leaves

No one ever tries anymore

You think of your biological father that abandoned you

And forget your fore father who made you

Made it possible to even make decisions you make today

A cycle created of people unfaithful

Rest your shoulders and cry on mine

I’ll make you mine no matter what you do

Lonely boy

Give me a chance

And I’ll love whatever’s left of you

NABJ Convention 2013

Right here, right now, I’m in Orlando Florida for the National Association of Black Journalists Annual Convention. Sitting in the newsroom on the Online Student Project, I can only think about how great of an experience this is!

From covering a press conference with Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, to just walking around the Gaylord resorts, I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world. Not to mention some of the greatest journalists and outstanding students from across the Globe are here.

It’s my last day reporting for the NABJ Monitor. It’s also my first day doing a stand up for the Ailes Apprentice Program and I loved it. Aspiring journalists, take advantage of opportunities now and you’ll never regret it.

Deadliest Wars in American History: What will Afghanistan Be?

American CasualtiesMany Eyes Thousands of American soldiers die in combat in the war on Afghanistan. Aside from that, over 6,000 people have died in the Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom alone. American soldiers have been fighting the War in Afghanistan since 2001. The number of deaths rises every day and no one knows what the final number will be. Dating back to the American Civil War in 1816, when ranked from the most deaths to the least, there were more deaths in the Civil war than all of the top 10 Deadliest wars in America. Iraqi War has the least. The top 10 Deadliest wars in American History are calculated in this chart. “I don’t think that it’s worth losing so many soldiers because to me, the war [in Afghanistan] has lost its purpose. If you ask the average person, they don’t even know why we’re still in war,” said Davetta Belton, student at Hofstra University. [polldaddy poll=7093972]
